History of Oakland Airport

Oakland city commenced the construction of the airport in 1925. The declaration of the Dole prize for a flight from California to Hawaii in 1927 provided the necessary incentive to buy 680 acres for the airport. The airport was constructed in 21 days. Boeing Air Transportation started scheduled flights to the city. Later, Trans World Airlines began taking flights to Oakland in 1932. Later, the U.S. Armed Forces took over the airport temporarily to build the Naval Air Station Oakland, which was changed to an airlift base for military flights.

World Airways transported thousands of military passengers to their bases in the Southeast Asia through Oakland during the war in Vietnam. After the war, the traffic of Oakland slumped. However, airline deregulation prompted low-fare carriers to commence flights. As a result, the Lionel J. Wilson Terminal 2 was constructed. In 1988, FedEx Express opened a cargo base at the airport. It is currently the busiest air freight terminal. Additionally, the terminal has international arrival facilities such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

In conclusion, Oakland Airport offers the best social amenities including shops and restaurants. Travellers get to enjoy their departure and arrival moments. The museum and the public art are the best places to visit when you are waiting for your flight. Alternatively, you can have a delicious meal at the best restaurants at the airport.
